Saturday, March 7, 2009– About 85 men gathered at Redeemer Church, Fort Worth, Saturday morning, March 7th, at 0800 for a manly breakfast and a solid time of Worship, Bible Study and Prayer.
This March Madness edition of the Men’s Ministry focused on getting a godly rebound in our Sanctification. Elder Mike Branch led the training time as we focused on rooting out sinful character traits from the inside. Sin boils up from within our fallen hearts and spreads. Only the cutting power of the Holy Spirit and the cleansing anti-biotic of the Word of God can root out those sinful habits that hold us back. The cure for sin does not lie within us, we must turn to Christ to be healed of our sin-sickness.
Using analogies from basketball and from a recent surgery, Mike led us to examine our lives in light of the gospel and called us to seek to grow in our relationship with Christ- our sanctification. He brought up a book that he recommended to us
I Really Want to Change… So, Help Me God by James MacDonald.
Bill Heinrich was called upon to give an encouraging yet humbling testimony of overcoming sin for the glory of Christ that fit Mike’s study perfectly and even went well with what pastor Tim Presson has been preaching on recently. It must have been a God-thing!
Darby Hughes and a small worship team led us in a brief time of singing and worship, and I really appreciated that. It was sooo good to hear a big group of men singing praises early in the morning!
Bill Heinrich also headed up the kitchen crew by purchasing all the food, recruiting the help and assigning tasks. Bill was assisted by Ken Monk who has a lot of experience in cooking for a crowd. Also helping were, Dale, Erich, Wayne, Daniel, Ken, myself and probably a couple of others I am forgetting.
We fried up some bacon and sausage, scrambled some eggs, cooked up some biscuits and gravy and, all in all, had a great time in the kitchen.
Praise the Lord for godly men! This group of guys has been one of the biggest blessings and encouragements in my life. I want you to notice something about the 3 men who led us this morning: Mike is a lay-Elder, Bill is a Deacon candidate, and Darby is a student intern. Not one paid staff person had to get invovlved in setting this up. Most of our staff were there, Pastor Tim, Worship Leader Gary and Min. of Admin. Dusty; but this was a time for them to be ministered to by the laymen of the church. This is how it is supposed to be, Praise God!Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( None so far )
