Is There A Hell? Yes!

Wednesday, September 10, 2008In reading Al Mohler’s blog this morning I saw that the MSM, those dinosaurs of journalism, are shocked, yes shocked, that Gov. Palin’s pastor believes and preaches that there is a Hell. Here are the links to Mohler’s blog and the Newsweek article:

The sad part of the story in Newsweek is that Palin’s pastor apparently has taken his sermons down from the website, probably to prevent the media from tearing them apart and taking quotes out of context, all the standard tricks.

But the funny part of the story is that the media is aghast that a conservative, Bible believing, evangelical minister would actually believe in hell. Do you see how out of touch the MSM is? I’ll bet that reporter hasn’t been to church for real in years, if at all. I’ll bet he hasn’t read the Bible. To be surprised that we really believe what the Bible teaches is beyond funny. Its pathetic.

Let me be perfectly clear: I am a Christian. I believe the Bible. I believe Jesus is the eternal Son of God and that he is the only name under heaven in which we can have a solid hope for salvation. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to God except through Him alone. Apart from trusting in Jesus there is no salvation. ALL WHO DO NOT TRUST IN CHRIST WILL DIE IN THEIR SINS AND GO TO HELL FOR ETERNITY.

Am I proud of this doctrine of hell? No, it makes me tremble. The very idea of hell terrifies me; I hate it. But, I am convinced by the word of God that there is a hell, there is a judgment day, and all who die apart from Christ will be delivered over to hell forever in endless suffering with no hope. By faith I know that somehow the doctrine of hell glorifies God because he is Holy, Holy, Holy. He is infinitely good and perfect, glorious and praiseworthy. Because God is just, I can understand the necessity of hell. When we sin, we sin against an infintely holy and good God. Sin deserves an infinite punishment.

But I also know God is a God of infinite love, mercy and grace who allowed his Son to die on the cross so that we could not just avoid hell, but positively live for Christ and enjoy God forever in heaven. Yes, the doctrine of hell is horrific, but our sins are horrific. And the Grace of God truly is Amazing. Do not let the horror of the doctrine of hell turn you off to Christ; rather, let it drive you to the grace of God that comes to us in Christ.

Why reporters will only report the bad news, we preach that hell is real, and fail to report the Good News- Jesus Saves, is beyond me. Journalism these days is so amateur and slavish to the liberal left.
